TPS SERIES POWER BREAK I

The GE line of Power Breaks began in mid 1900’s with an offering of a dual mag type trip circuit breaker with the original TPS series of breakers. These breakers relied on mechanical magnetic trip units with adjustable settings for Long Time, Short Time and Instantaneous as options. These breakers could include devices such as:

  • Electric Operation
  • Shunt Trip
  • Under Voltage Release (UVR)
  • Auxillary Contacts
  • Bell Alarm

Ground Fault during this time period was by the use of a GF relay and Module that interacted with a shunt trip installed in the breaker. This was known as external Ground Fault. Many of these breakers are still in service today as they proved to be reliable and able to be serviced and rebuilt by CPS Technicians.

  • APPLICATION

The TPS series PBI was used in all applications such as Industrial, Commercial, Offshore, Railroad and many others. These breakers were able to be used in both AC and DC Voltage Applications and even offered a 1000 Volt rated frame for special applications.

These breakers were also available in a drawout configuration, allowing users to easily install and remove with little downtime. This drawout was known as the Plainville Drawout or slang names such as “the one-armed bandit” or “slot machine” because of its racking handle style which looks a lot like the lever of a slot machine.
